MCO's 2016 Winter Retreat was in Beaufort, SC January 15 - 17.
Students from 7 campuses around the southeast came together to hear from Dr. Travis Johnson.

Speaker:  Dr. Travis Johnson
Travis
Johnson grew up as the second son in a family of three boys who were always playing football, hiking in the woods, or hitting the golf ball with their dad.  After completing an undergraduate degree in political science from Furman University, being on staff with MCO, and obtaining a medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina, Travis and his wife Amy moved to the mountains of Hendersonville, North Carolina for the rural track family medicine residency program.  After being a hospitalist and an international medicine fellow, Travis completed a masters in public health from the Harvard School of Public Health.  From 2010-2013, Travis, Amy and their three small children lived and served with Serge (World Harvest Mission) in a village outside of Bundibugyo, Uganda.  On this border area with the DRC, they recruited and led a team that extends God's shalom through medicine, nutrition, water sanitation, education, agriculture, and supported local efforts in Bible translation and church planting.  At the age of 37, during what was planned to be a 5 month furlough, Travis was diagnosed with colon cancer.  For the last 3 years,Travis has seen the goodness of the Lord as he has battled recurring cancer.  Currently, Travis teaches family medicine residents and practices medicine at the Hendersonville Family Medicine Residency Program and lives life to the fullest with his wife, kids, and eleven pets.  Through his experiences both in Uganda and on the cancer floors, Travis is convinced that God is most understood through beauty and brokenness.
